Bert and I are working on formatting and publishing the newest 52-week Children's Bible Curriculum entitled "Living Like Jesus Series".  I will notify you when this curriculum is ready to upload!!

FREE "Christian Warriors Series" Children's Bible Curriculum is Ready to Download!

The first series of FREE Children's Bible Curriculum is published and ready to download (PDF format) or print from our ministry website (bertandjo.com).

This 47-week series is entitled "Christian Warriors Series".  Each lesson is designed to teach children (ages 7-12 years) who they are in Christ and how to live a victorious Christian life.

These lesson have actually been taught in a classroom setting at New Testament Christian Fellowship in Landrum, SC to the children's church attendees.  Bert and I (and the other teachers) had a blast sharing these truths with the children there and watching them learn the truths of God's Word.

My heart's desire is to equip children to know Christ, live a victorious Christian life and be able to share God's love and power with others.

To access these FREE teachings (which can be printed or downloaded to your tablet/device) Just go to:  bertandjo.com. Click on: Teaching Resources

I welcome your feedback after you have shared these lessons with the children in your care.

God bless you!

Joanne

ART OF THE HORSE art project by OUR CAROLINA FOOTHILLS

Rudy, a "WELL-READ HORSE", is the creation of Kim Attwooll of Tryon, NC.  Kim took the book jackets from books of several local authors and created a patchwork horse blanket for her part in the ART OF THE HORSE are project, sponsored by OUR CAROLINA FOOTHILLS.  A live auction fundraising gala of the sixteen horses displayed in Landrum, SC and Tryon, NC will be held on the evening of August 19th from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, NC.  Visit www.ourcarolinafoorhills.com to see more about this exciting, year-long project!

Rudy is currently on display at the Landrum Public Library in Landrum, SC until August 19th.  The book jacket from my books, REETA BOOK READS TO EVERYTHING! is located at the top of Rudy's spine on the colorful, collage horse blanket.  If you happen to be in the area and drop by the library in Landrum, Rudy will be the colorful horse (wearing black glasses) on the lawn.  He has a stack of books in front of hiim...very appropriate for a library display!

I was surprised and pleased to receive a note from Kim, alerting me that my book was part of this art project.

Thanks, Kim!!  Good job on the art work!

Planting books in little lives is a blast!

I haven't sold any books lately.  That's perfectly fine with me.  I didn't actually write this book to make money, I wrote this book to encourage children to read.  I gave a book to a little 6-year-old girl, named Skylar, the other day.  She needed someone to supervise her while her dad attended a parenting class.  I was sitting in the lobby, so I volunteered for the job.  She was a delight.  I "just happened' to have a copy of REETA BOOK READS TO EVERYTHING!  in my car, so I autographed a copy and gave it to her.  You would have thought I gave her a million bucks! The look on her face was priceless.  She has a younger sister, and she vowed to read it to her that very night as a bedtime story.  That one random experience made writing this book all worthwhile!  I love writing and I love to see children reading!  I will look for other children , just like Skylar, who need to read! :)

Book Reading - JV Washam Elementary School, Cornelius, NC

I had a wonderful time today.  I had a book reading at JV Washam Elementary School in Cornelius, NC.  At 1:00pm, I visited Mrs. Furches' 3rd grade class and read REETA BOOK READS TO EVERYTHING! to her class and their K-5 "Reading Buddies".  They were a very attentive group who asked great questions and had on their listening ears.  At 1:45 pm, I went across the hall and read my book to Mrs. Lonon's 3rd grade class and their K-5 "Reading Buddies".  They were also an excellent group, and I was very impressed with their questions and attentiveness during the book reading.

After the book readings, each 3rd grader was paired with their "Reading Buddy" and wrote their own books about "...reading to everything"!  I had a great time walking around the classrooms and hearing how the pairs "brainstormed" rhyming words and discussed what (or who) the K-5 student wanted to read to!

I would like to thank Ms. Scottie (the class volunteer) for putting together and stapling 50 blank booklets for the children to write their stories in.  I would also like to thank Ms. Nicastro and Ms. Zelasko for letting their kindergarten children join us for both book readings.  Their classes were very well-behaved and cooperative during the reading and writing activities.

I am so grateful for the hospitality my husband (Bert) and I were shown at JV Washam from the moment we arrived!  The office staff was very friendly and those we met in the hallways made us feel so welcome.  We had a great time and wish all the students and staff a relaxing and enjoyable summer vacation!  Thanks for having us!

Creative Beginnings Book Reading and Book Signing!

I had such an awesome time with the 3 and 4-year old classes at Creative Beginnings Christian Preschool in Hendersonville, NC.  During the Book Reading, we discussed the parts of the book, how to care for books and then we jumped right into the story.  The children were very attentive and gave some great input during the story.

At the Book Signing, I was privileged to meet some of the parents and grandparents who purchased the book for their children and posed for pictures with me.

It was a wonderful day.  I appreciate the hospitality of Fran Rochester and the staff of Creative Beginnings Christian Preschool!

My First Book Signing!

I held my very first book signing this past weekend at the CROOKED DOOR COFFEE HOUSE in Marion, NC.  It was a great experience!  Parker Wilson (the character of Reeta Book in the photographs) and Rachel Withrow (the photographer) were on hand to sign books and great everyone.  With the aroma of coffee wafting from inside the coffee shop, it was an awesome atmosphere to chat with folks and meet new friends.  I look forward to other signings in the future in Hendersonville, Tryon, and Forest City, NC.  Being a children's book author is such a blast!! Until next blog post...

Photo shoot with RUTHERFORD WOMAN tomorrow!

I was thrilled yesterday to receive a text from Sunny Gonzalez at RUTHERFORD WOMAN magazine in Forest City, NC.  I am scheduled with David Staley for a photo shoot tomorrow and a phone interview with Sunny on Friday.  I am excited to be one of the featured women in the upcoming fall issue of the magazine.  This will give my book some local exposure, so I really look forward to seeing what happens in the months to come.  God has been so good to me throughout this entire experience.  Although there have been major hurdles to overcome - two of them today - I am still enjoying the ride!  Writing children's books is such a joy in my life.  My precious husband has been a rock for me and will accompany tomorrow for the photo shoot.  He is a true gift from the Father of Lights.
